Product Information

Description

VectoBac G, GS, and GR are granular formulations of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (strain AM65-52) for control of mosquito larvae. The potency of all three formulations is 200 International Toxin Units (ITU) per milligram against Aedes aegypti larvae. The size, shape, and density of VectoBac granules lessen the potential for off-target application due to aerial drift and enable good penetration of dense vegetation.

VectoBac GR (10/20 mesh) is the higher density granule, only granule to complete the WHOPES (World Health Organization Pesticide Evaluation Scheme). VectoBac GR has received approval for application in organic crops (U.S.: Organic Materials Review Institute [OMRI] approved) and sensitive habitats in various countries around the world.

Features

  • Efficient control at relatively low doses.
  • Safe use for operators, no risks for environment from spills.
  • No side effects towards non-target organisms.
  • Protection of predator and parasitoid population can provide additional pest control effect.
  • The pests are less likely to become resistant.

Where & When to Use

Use VectoBac GR 2.5–20.0 lbs/acre (2.8–22.4 kg/ha) to standing water (including agricultural fields) where mosquito larvae are found. Use 10–20 lbs/acre (11.2–22.4 kg/ha) when late 3rd and early 4th instar larvae predominate, mosquito populations are high, water is heavily polluted (sewage lagoons, animal waste lagoons), and/or algae are abundant.

Mode of Action

The larvae ingest the VectoBac GR insecticide which consists of Bti spores and crystalline toxins produced by the bacteria. Only when activated by the larva’s specific gut PH and enzymes, do the crystals become toxic, causing damage to the gut of the mosquito. Mortality rate is dependent on consumption of the Bti by 1st through early 4th instar larvae. Higher application rates are recommended if 3rd and early 4th instar larvae are predominant.
