Are your pine trees smaller than usual? Are they growing at a slower rate? They might be infested with the most common insect pest in young pine plantations: the Nantucket pine tip moth. This pest can slow the growth of trees and adversely affect the quality of wood, reducing overall quality and profits. In loblolly pine stands affected by tip moths, every tree is likely to be attacked at least once a year.

One-time use for lasting success

Although pine tip moths are rarely deadly to a tree, the trees often develop forked stems, resulting in less valuable wood. These attacks can also delay growth of trees, thus increasing the rotation length of infested pines.

Fortunately, we have a solution! Unlike other tip moth insecticides, which must be sprayed repeatedly on young pines, PTM Insecticide is a one-time-use product. When used, it is injected into the soil, into the rootball, or into the roots of a container-grown pine seedling. In order to receive the same level of control as a single application of PTM insecticide, other products need to be sprayed as many as five times a year for multiple years.

Timing is everything

If your pines are prone to tip moths, ensure you time your application correctly. The optimal application time typically occurs between late April and early May. Have questions regarding pine tip moth control and PTM Insecticide? Reach out to your local representative for more information!
